Educational Joy Ride

I have had a great life! I wouldn't trade it for any other life! Although I was born in Chicago, life for me began as a small child in Good Ole Mississippi. I was reared in Byhalia, Mississippi by my
maternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles. I long so much for those wonderful times once again. Byhalia, Ms. was such a rural town back in the seventies. Their were dirt roads and out houses. Our family had chickens, pigs, cows, and dogs. We were bussed to an elementary school in Olive Branch, Ms. about ten miles away. However, my sister and I found ourselves back in Chicago by the age of thirteen. I attended Simeon Vocational High School and was on the Pom Pom Squad which was one of the best thing about high school. I enrolled in College at Kennedy-King at the ripe age of 40 and managing quite well academically. I am a member of the International Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa. I have had the privilege of attended the 92ND annual convention in Orlando,FL. I am enjoying every moment of the college life but I wish to relocate back to Good ole Mississippi to further my educational goals. Take a ride on my Educational Joy Ride!!

My hats, Hate it or love it

Alright blog-world your boy pastorp is back at it. Today I'm giving out oscar awards for best and worst hats. Come along for the ride and give me your opinion also. Let the games begin!

From the pit to the pulpit

Welcome blog-world as we journey through the life and times of Rev. Miguel Frost. This tour begins on 63rd street, you guess it the heart of Englewood. There's know need to run for cover, this is life from the eyes of a ghetto superstar. I encourage you to buckle your seatbelt because this ride gets kind of bumpy. I've seen a lot in my days, but life in the ghetto made me the strong person I am today. My neighborhood was infested with drugs, prostitution and a very high crime rate, but life goes on.

My later years is a testimony of what God can do. We are molded and shaped as we travel through our destiny, but I tell you if you faint not there is an abundance of joy at the end of the rainbow. Be blessed~~

Surviving Low-Income Chicago Life at Home and School

Hello, class!  I wanted to take you on a journey through the places that shaped my young life - my first home and my Chicago Public School locations.

The most important place for me was home.  My parents struggled to make sure we had all we needed, even though we didn't have much at all.  They did a wonderful job, because I never felt like we were actually poor, even though I could see later that we were squarely in the lower-income bracket.  I still have fond memories of my time there. and hated to leave when we did!

The schools I went to, Brownell and Deneen Elementary, and Lindblom Technical High School, were all in low income areas with struggling families, and still took care of my educational and "growing up" needs.  I mentioned my favorite teacher, Mrs. Virginia Brown, in my Brownell School placemark, and have a picture of her with our 4th grade class in my home collage.

I hope you all enjoy the trip, and never forget the rough journeys you all took to get where you are now!

Jayel Publishing Company-Desktop Publishing

Jayel Publishing is actually a home-based desktop publishing business that I started some time ago. At that time. I created flyers, forms and ad books using Microsoft Word and Lotus Word Pro (now "defunct" software); Adobe software was nowhere on the radar for me. I am looking forward to operating my home based business (which have been shelved), utilizing the knowledge which I have obtained in this class and other graphic design courses that I‘ve taken at Kennedy King.

This timeline is based on the events surrounding the popular, controversial hip- hop artist Tupac Shakur's shooting in Las Vagas September 7, 1996. He was attending the Tyson/ Seldon fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to support his close friend (boxer) Mike Tyson. He was on his way to Club 662 but never made it. I hope this gives more insight on the events leading up to this often talked about Tupac shooting.

Pass the Ball or Pass the Moss!

The NFL is one of the highest profit organizations in the world. With that said, the sport as we know as football has turned into a multi billion dollar industry. "Money is the Motive" as New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne would say. So in the efforts to keep money in the hands of the Owners, Ceo's, Vice Presidents, and front office of the New England Patriots, the team decided to cut All-Star receiver Randy Moss. Moss spoke publicly about his contract extension only after he witnessed a successful contract extension given to fellow teammate Tom Brady. The only thing Moss didn't realize that he wasn't America's favorite quarterback. So he wasn't going to get the same treatment as Brady But is the team still the Patriots without Randy Moss? http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2010/patriots-offense-misses-randy-moss/ So now Moss is picked up by the Minnesota Vikings. Coach Brad Childress was excited about getting an all-star veteran wide receiver. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Randy-Moss-trade-New-England-Patriots-Minnesota-Vikings-100510. Now the Vikings had issues within their organization already. At the time of the trade they had a record of 1-3. Randy Moss's first game in Minnesota they were Victorious. It looked like the beginning of something good, but everything that glitters is not gold. The next game the Vikings lost and all the issues of coach player relationships started to rise. everyone was pointing the finger at each other. The Vikings were soon to play Moss's former team, the new England Patriots. Moss caught one pass for 8 yards in a Vikings loss. Then Moss gave a press conference exalting the team he once played for, the same team that didn't want to give Moss the money he wanted and deserved. The same team that put him in this position. http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=10413298. So now the Vikings have Randy Moss pretty much giving praise to the team he was sent from. That didn't sit well with head coach Brad Childress, and Moss was cut the very next day. They called him a distraction. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/506886-minnesota-vikings-to-release-randy-moss-after-four-games. So now You may think who is going to take Moss on, if any team. Well the answer is the Tennessee Titans. we are now currently in week 9 of the NFL season, and Randy Moss is on his third team. http://www.standard.net/topics/sports/2010/11/03/tennessee-signs-moss-waivers . Moss has yet to play a game with them, but I hope and pray for Moss's sake he can make this team better, because if he can't the Titans will be the third to execute Moss and his Reputation.

New York City Visit

Back in August of 2008, my wife and I drove (without the kids!)  to New York City to visit for 3 days.  Instead of spending all of our cash on a hotel in the city, we stayed in a LaQuinta Inn in Secaucus, NJ.  Parking was free, breakfast was included, and it was a 15 minute bus ride away from midtown Manhattan.  The map shows a few stops we made while in the city during our visit.  The stops included the Empire State Building, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Times Square, Old Yankee Stadium, and the Statue of Liberty.

View Jeff & Tracy In NYC in a larger map

There just wasn't enough time to take in the best of the city in those 3 days, so we hope to go again soon.  If you guys haven't made the trip, I definitely recommend it!  Even though flying there would save time, I would also recommend driving.  It was about a 12 hour drive, and since I have a country wife who was born in Mississippi and drags me down there from time to time, I can say the drive to NYC was nothing new!  The ride though the mountains of Pennsylvania was also very scenic.

So put a NYC visit on your "Bucket List"!

"Babies having Babies" Who's to blame

Can you imagine being robbed of your childhood at the tender age of 10 years old? Well this is exactly what happen to a ten year old living in Spain. Her mother a Romanian Gypsy says she's delighted to have a new granddaughter and this is common in her country. http://www.suntimes.com/news/world/2864604,CST-NWS-youngmom04.article At 10 years old a little girl is suppose to be playing hop-scotch or jumping rope, not spending her time feeding a baby or changing pampers! Compare to singer Alicia Keys, 29 who recently gave birth to her first child. http://www.suntimes.com/news/blogentries/index.html?bbPostId=Cz8HR5PQta9N8BzE7IoTsU7SWBzAuZ90UcBsECz6t59HvlIDhb&bbParentWidgetId=B8k88rWwXopuz5STgLeVwBLu. The difference in the two would clearly be their age. There's a 19 year gap in between the two where one would be able to find themself as a person. How can this 10 year old possibly find herself when she will be strapped down with such a heavy burden. Don't get me wrong, bringing a life into this world is a beautiful thing, but such a burden should be done responsibly!

This is not the youngest age reported for a pregnancy. In fact the earliest a person has given birth was the age of 5 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_youngest_birth_mothers. I'm speechless because looking at the list I count 32 different cases where the mom to be was under the age of 13 years old. Wow! Think of the cases that have not been reported. Where do we draw the line and who's to blame for such careless behavior? Are the laws we have in place today allowing our children to be children? People can we please live a life govern by morals and righteous standards! What would you do if this was your child? I repeat, What would you do if this was your child?

Does it Matter to You if a Mosque is Built Near Ground Zero?

Does it matter to you if a mosque is built near Ground Zero?

El-Gamal is the manager of a real estate partnership that controls the property on which the Islamic center would be built he says there are no no plans to move the project and "I am calling the shots."

Hisham Elzanaty is a key financial backer of the Islamic center near Ground Zero. He paid $4.8 million last year for the vacant clothing store that is to be torn down and replaced by a cultural center and mosque.

Elzanaty's tax records show he gave donations to organization which were labeled as terrorist by President Clinton in 1995.

Pumpkins, Costumes, Candy--Halloween!

The lanterns are lit, candies are toppling out of massive bowls, and eager children are gazing intensely at their costumes. Several people in the U. S., Ireland, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom are counting down to its arrival—Halloween. It is here again; and as usual, topping media headlines worldwide. So where, exactly, did this festive holiday originate?

Halloween's origin date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Halloween, celebrated annually on October 31, is a mix of ancient Celtic practices, Catholic and Roman religious rituals and European folk traditions that blended together over time to create the holiday we know today.

Its name, a short form of “All Hollows Even (Evening),” originated in Scotland during the 16th Century. In 1927, the phrase, “Trick or Treat,” surfaced in Alberta, Canada. Young children in North America would perform a song or rhyme, and were rewarded with a treat. During the 1930s, this practice was adopted throughout the United States.

The idea of the Jack O Lantern was brought to the U.S. from Ireland. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." In short, he was allowed into neither Heaven, nor hell when he died. He was sent off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since.

So now that you no what the media’s raving about, carve out a lantern, grab a goody bag (or two), and yell “Trick or Treat,” until you’ve had enough. Then post pictures letting me know how you celebrated! Here is a small treat for you.

The Trouble With Community Colleges

I sometimes find myself asking myself, what is the problem with city colleges. Why is there such a low graduation rate in city colleges or some of you may call them community colleges. Do not get me wrong, I love the curriculum here at Kennedy-King College. It's just that I start to wonder if I have made the right decision when the course requirements change every semester. When my refund check is held for a month because of fear that other students may drop out when they receive their refund checks. I know, it sounds a little crazy, but I need my money when it arrives at the college. I wish I had of done my research on this issue before now. Should I have enrolled in a University before enrolling in a community college? Here are some websites that I have checked out to shine some light on this issue. click here

Anime&Graphics

Anime&; Graphics have change the we can shape and mode our ideas. It has change the we use to view ideas. It has changed commercials trailers, tv shows, internet, video games, and movies.
Who would have ever thought that creativity could go so far. It just goes to shows how far daydreaming when your board in a class you don't like really has come. Just look at the shows created so far. Who would've thought the boondocks would go from being a comic in the paper to being on screen. The same with comics like the hulk, batman, dragonball z, naruto, bleach and others. I'm not saying that all the shows were good because we had some that didn't go as far we thought they would. I feel that anime is another outlet proving that anything is possible. There are so many ways to shift and shape an idea and anime amplifies those possibilities.

Jesse Jackson Jr.: Stalled Political Career?

Next Tuesday, Jesse Jackson Jr.’s ninth term as Representative of Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District is on the line. He will most likely win the election against his lesser known opponents, but it will probably be the least lopsided victory he’s enjoyed. On top of that, he could have been a front-runner in the upcoming Chicago mayoral campaign, but wound up not entering that race. All of this is because of the scandals that have dogged him over the last few weeks, both personally and politically. The heat from two particular scandals, I believe, will put whatever hope he had to push his political career past his Congressional position up in flames.

One scandal was the revelation that Jackson had an inappropriate relationship with a Washington, D.C. restaurant hostess, Giovana Huidobro. He has admitted to the relationship and says that it is a private matter that he and his wife Sandy have dealt with privately. I agree that it is a private matter, and it doesn’t sway me either way on how I would vote. But I have actually heard some people, particularly some African-American female journalists, are not happy at his choice of mistress- that is, a young, blonde, Non-African-American mistress! In some folks’ eyes, this is enough of a reason to sway their vote. “He could have at LEAST chosen a SISTAH!” Not right, especially in 2010, but it has been spoken by some.

The bigger scandal for me was Jackson’s “clarification” of his involvement at a meeting that included two Indian fundraisers who discussed raising $1 million in campaign money for Rod Blogojevich. Jackson admits being at the meeting, but claimed that the discussion about fundraising was mostly “in Hindu”, and that he didn’t understand what they were discussing. The fundraisers testified in the Blago trial that, later on the day of the meeting, they met with Blogojevich’s brother and told him that they would raise the $1 million if Jackson was appointed the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama. Come on, Jesse! I know I’m not the only one that thinks you look very bad on this one. Being at a meeting where money and terms are discussed about your political future and claiming to not be part of that discussion is very weak.

It doesn’t surprise me anymore that politicians get caught up in mistress scandals or money scandals. But Jesse seemed to me to be mostly successful in keeping his nose clean. But now that he’s neck-deep in drama, he seems tainted enough to have done irreversible harm to his political career. I would be surprised if further attempts are not made to link him more strongly to the fundraising scheme, if not other scandals we don’t know about yet. And as long as these investigations are kept alive in the media, the voting public has more opportunity to think the worst of him. And I think he recognized his tarnished image when he bailed out of the mayoral race, although he said he did it because he “can’t raise enough campaign funds”. Let’s just hope for his sake that time will heal these painful political and personal wounds.

THE OUTBREAK OF CHOLERA IN HAITI

Still reeling from the devastation of the January 2010 earthquake, the Haitians have yet another enemy to combat--the rampage of cholera which claimed over 300 lives (and counting) and sickened thousands who await treatment in rural Haiti. Cholera, a highly contagious disease, left untreated, can cause death within hours. Inside sources claimed that medical supplies are not reaching the people as needed. The efforts of health authorities and workers to keep the disease out of Port du Prince, Haiti's capital are dismal:
  • Fetid conditions in the overcrowded camps of over 1 million earthquake survivors is already a breeding ground.
  • Abject poverty and poor water sources can cause the spread of the disease quickly

Neighboring country Dominican Republic had closed their borders on news of the outbreak and has slowly opened them under heavy surveillance.

Teaching the people to properly wash their hands, avoid using standing water to bathe and wash fruits and vegetables and provide soap and purification tablets, health authorities hope these measures will quell any furtherance of this contagion.

Realtime Politics Hot October

October 2010 has been hotter than July and politics couldn't get any better... or worse than the firecracker stories that have hit the air waves this past couple of weeks. HBO's Realtime talk show host Bill Maher was offended when Tea Party favorite and Delaware senate candidate "I'm not a witch... Evolution is a myth... Christine O'Donnell refused to come on his show. So he's launched his own campaign to enlighten the country and unveil just how wickedly unqualified Ms. O'Donnell is. Check out the Youtube clip with Seth McFarlane as guest. Don't mess w/Bill.

Anita Hill Contacted By Virginia Thomas, Clarence Thomas' Wife Talk about blast from the past. Can somebody say "get over it already". White folks always did have the audacity to say and do as they please to blacks. But times have changed and Ginny Thomas needs to wake up and smell the abolition of slavery and the 21st century where stalking and harassment is illegal. Anita Hill is an attorney whom I'm sure has moved on with her life and did the right thing by notifying the authorities of an extremely inappropriate phone call from the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas whom Hill gave sworn testimony that she was sexually harassed by her then boss of almost 20 years ago.Clarence Thomas's Ex-Girlfriend Reveals Lurid Details Just because it wasn't proven, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Violence in Our Neighborhoods

Gunshots rang in my neighborhood everyday. Many innocent people suffer because of the shooters ignorance.

Does anyone have an answer as to why all this anger, hate, and killing is taking place?

Is anyone willing to fearlessly step up, take back, and make the places safe where our children play and learn?

Bridge Builders For The Soul

It’s the lives that they lived
It’s the songs that they’ve sung
It’s the examples that they have set
Or the paths they have walked

It’s the words that they’ve preached,
"teached" or reached within your heart
Sometimes it’s the words that were not said
That helped get you over.

These are some of the people who have graced and influenced my life.

Whitney Houston on drugs doesn't predict her daughter future.

In life there is struggles. Just because you have problems in your life does not mean that you can't succeed. Life is what you make it. Sometimes it takes struggles to get where you are in life. Push yourself to success. There are many people who grows up with parents on drugs and becomes something in life. No matter if there are celebrities or not they have problems too.

The Backstory: The Black Man's Journey from Slavery

It's me again! I just want to take time out to reflect on the journey of the Black Man. The violent, sagging pants wearing, illiterate thug image has been broadcast to us for far too long. Viewers are constantly bombarded with negative images of our brothers. Some people have actually began accepting this perpetrator as a realistic representation of the black man. I feel it would only be fair to remind the world of the backstory, and continuing success of our men. This silent slideshow creates music on its own.

Does Black America Have A Culture?

As a Black American I often get jealous of other races, because they seem to have a culture and we don't. The collage below express my confusion and jealousy. Some may define our culture as hip hop our shoes or name brand clothes. Others describe it as our art, and our struggle. I agree with others but what is our dance? What is our holiday? What is our food? Where is our culture?

Memories of Old Comiskey Park

Being the White Sox fan that I am, I thought I would take a look back at the old home of the team, the original Comiskey Park.  Located on the north side of 35th Street at the Dan Ryan Expressway, it was completed in 1910, and was one of the first steel and concrete stadiums built.  It was demolished following the 1990 season and was replaced by the current U.S. Cellular Field.  Here's a look back at it from it's construction through its demolition.

The last game played there was 20 years ago last month, but it seems like yesterday that I would see the old place during my trips through the 35th St. L station.  I Hope you all enjoy the memories as well!

Kendra's Celebrity Look A Like...Mya

Everyone has a superstar who look like them or that resembles them in some way. My superstar twin is Mya. I was first told this by my son when he was in high school a few years ago. He would post posters of Mya on his wall along beside pictures of me. I must agree Mya is a lucky girl to favor such a beautiful star as myself! What superstar do you resemble, or have been told that look like you? You may not agree, but this could be interesting. The world want to know, I want to know!

NO CENSORSHIP: FIGHT the POWER!!!!!!

Hello Fellow Classmates :)

I hope everyone is well. I am a passionate advocate for the First Amendment. However, it seems sometimes we Americans are not allowed to exercise this right FULLY (especially STUDENTS). So I made this collage as a response to that sentiment and to provoke others to realize the importance in exercising this right, with the help of the late 80's early 90's popular controversial hip- hop groups of all time "Public Enemy." So join me, raise your fist proudly in the air, and SCREAM: "FIGHT THE POWER. YEAH BOYEEEE..........."

Thanks,

OneTrueMedia is discriminating! LOL!!!

It seems that Pastor P and I are the only two able to post a montage from OneTrueMedia longer than a minute. I don't know what's going on with them but, in an effort to right this wrong, I will allow my fellow bloggers to access my account for OneTrueMedia. My email is subliminalsoundcogic@gmail.com and my password is june31986! This info is very dear to my heart and I trust you all to not abuse privileges. So to my creative minds out there, lets create without the ONE MINUTE LIMITS!!!!

Riding Public Transportation

Yesterday, my fiance left for work at 4pm he did not get to work until 6:45pm. The reason why is because four cta buses passed him up because they felt that they wouldn't be able to fit him on the bus. It could have been that the driver did not want to ask passengers to move for handicap seating which is often the case especially early weekday morning when we're on our way to school. Cta bus drivers not doing their job or not doing their job right is often the case when it comes to South Chicago drivers. On Wednesday I was on a bus where the driver yelled at the passengers to get of the bus because it was the end of her line. I'm just tired of getting poor service from the cta.
Oh Yeah CTA Driver constantly take their own breaks while passengers too!
This is Pascha Rascoe telling the cta to get it together!!!
